Do not center all your text and everything else on the web pages, because it looks amateurish.

There is really no reason to design your website this way, especially when you consider that a full page left to right layout is always used for book and magazine text. If they encounter a lot of centered text on your website, it will look strange to them, and they will more than likely hit the close tab or the back button on their browser without bothering to read the page.

Do not have music that plays on your website because then the site takes longer to load and not everyone will like the music that you select to play. Even if visitors bother to wait for your site to load, they will soon click away if they do not like the music that they are being forced to listen to. If you really think that music is necessary then make it optional by having a play button located in a prominent spot at the top of your site's pages.

Do not use JavaScript for any critical elements of your web pages since about a fifth of all Web users are not able to or do not want to run JavaScript. That means that part of your site will not work for them, and they will either think that your site was designed incorrectly or that you neglected to fix the problems that developed. The use of JavaScript, then, means that you might lose twenty percent of your visitors before they have looked over the content of your web pages.

Do not use flash for all or most of your website because search engines cannot read the flash content and your site will be given a lower ranking than sites with mostly text and images on them. But as long as you make certain there is a large amount of text included on your site, you do not have to leave flash out entirely. If you ignore this advice then you will hardly get any visitors from Google, Yahoo and Bing, which are the best sources of getting visitors to your website.
